UPON FURTHER
REVIEW: Worst big money maker: Indiana Jones 4. I can understand enthusiasm for
a new Indiana Jones movie, but given how bad it was, there’s no explaining how
it hit #2. I mean, even Star Wars blushed at the sub-title “Kingdom of the
Crystal Skull.”
BEST
PICTURE:
Slumdog
Millionaire
The Curious
Case of Benjamin Button
Frost/Nixon
Milk
The Reader
Upon Further
Review: Worst Nomination: The Reader? Rarely has a best picture nominee
disappeared so quickly.
Most
Overrated: Tropic Thunder. Great cast, great concept…just not that funny.
Never go full retard. Ok so that was funny.
Most Underrated (Then): Role Models. The funny Paul Rudd movie
you probably didn’t see. At one point during the LARPing, one dude says to him,
“Fun though right?” Rudd, “It’s a blast.” Similar guilty reaction to enjoying
this movie
Most
Underrated (Now): Hancock. Somehow,
a very entertaining comic book hero film with a huge star and great box office
doesn’t have a sequel. Marvel has poured into the gap with the very similar
Iron Man character, netting at least a billion dollars because of it. I’m sure
Will Smith doesn’t NEED the money, but it’s not like he’s run off to do small
art house films about clowns with a tear.
Most
Influential: Cloverfield. We have this movie to blame for a lot of shaky
camera.
Most
representative of the decade: Slumdog Millionaire. This was the decade that
Bollywood became a global phenomenon. Also, remember when Who Wants to Be a
Millionaire was a big deal? Did somebody make a “no whammies” movie in the
70’s?
